College student who went to hospital with ‘appendicitis’ finds out she’s pregnant and in labor

A young student who gave birth just fifteen minutes after shockingly finding out she was pregnant has revealed she first went to the doctor because she thought she had ‘appendicitis’ and that she had found herself in labor.

Kayla Simpson, 21, a student at Indiana University, was shocked to see a baby when her doctors performed an ultrasound after they thought she had appendicitis because she was having severe cramps and bleeding.

The student was suffering from what she thought were severe menstrual cramps but showed no signs of pregnancy – and when she thought she would leave hospital without an appendix, she left with a newborn baby instead .

Her one-year-old daughter Madi was born just 15 minutes after the ultrasound, leaving everyone in shock.

In a series of viral videos posted on her TikTok account, the student opened up about how she ended up finding out she was about to give birth.

Kayla explained, “So on November 7 at around 12:30 p.m. I had very mild menstrual cramps.”

“And then they got really bad like 30 minutes later.

“So I called my mum thinking my appendix was bursting because I was bleeding a lot.

“It hurt so much I could barely speak and barely move.

“But I was walking, so I could walk, I could do anything. I was just in a lot of pain.

Kayla and her mother then drove to the hospital to have her checked out, assuming doctors would remove her appendix.

“I think my appendix burst and the ER doctor pushes me on my stomach and he doesn’t suspect a thing,” she added.

The doctor saw no signs of appendicitis, so he thought Kayla might have a cyst and suggested she get an ultrasound.

During the ultrasound, Kayla’s mum spotted “something familiar” – tiny baby feet – and doctors rushed her to labor.

“The next thing I knew I was screaming in pain and you see like little feet on the ultrasound and I started screaming so loud.”

Doctors arrived soon after and told Kayla she was about to give birth and was 10cm dilated.

15 minutes later, Kayla gave birth to her daughter.

In her viral videos, she explained that she had no idea she was pregnant as she hadn’t felt any pain and had even worked a “double 12 hour shift” the night before.

She added that she didn’t have a ‘bump’, was ‘the skinniest she’s ever been’ and had had regular periods throughout her pregnancy.

Kayla only had contractions an hour before she gave birth.

Although Kayla was shocked, she was so happy that she came home with a healthy baby who became her “best friend”.

Kayla noted that her family and friends were extremely supportive and added that she nicknamed her daughter “frat baby” because of how she met Madi’s father.

Although Kayla and Madi’s father is no longer together, according to Kayla, he visits Madi and will help her when he can.

Kayla experienced a cryptic pregnancy, which is a mystery pregnancy that goes unnoticed until very late in her pregnancy or until she gives birth.

According to AmericanPregnancy.org, a cryptic pregnancy, also known as a stealth pregnancy, occurs when a woman does not know she is pregnant, either because testing methods fail to detect the pregnancy or because that she does not notice that she has symptoms of pregnancy.
