The college football recruiting world was shocked Thursday night when five-star Cormani McClain verbally committed to Miami. The second-ranked player in the Class of 2023 was at Alabama and Florida, but chose the Canes over his other two schools.
WHAT HURRICANES GET
Miami gets the highest-rated player at his position, a corner of coverage everyone will expect to start on day one. McClain has the speed, height and wingspan to make life difficult for ACC receivers. From 7-on-7 events to camps and high school games, McClain makes quarterbacks pay to follow his path. The Hurricanes get a potential All-American with McClain.
WHAT MAKES MCCLAIN DIFFERENT
Besides being a monster athlete, McClain is really good at what he does. From his coaster to route recognition and hip turning, he’s elite on every level in his approach to the game. There’s a dog factor about McClain that’s overlooked. McClain isn’t loud or outspoken, his skills speak for themselves on the court. Another advantage, McClain will go down and spawn a receiver and/or running back.
WHY IT’S GREAT FOR MIAMI
It’s a big win for Miami in more ways than one. The Hurricanes added their third five-star player to the 2023 class as they prepare for the future. Head Coach Mario Cristobal and company don’t have a three-year plan to challenge the ACC, they now have a winning approach with this class. The added benefit is to move McClain away from Florida and move up to 8th nationally in the Rivals’ team recruiting rankings.
