Club América 1-2 Chelsea, Friendly: post-match reaction

Today was an interesting first look at Chelsea this season, with the Blues winning 2-1 against Mexican side Club América with second-half goals from Timo Werner and Mason Mount. Although no changes have been made to the tactical form with manager Thomas Tuchel sticking to the tried and true 3-4-3 that ‘carried’ us to a Champions League title, today it s It was more about getting back in shape and seeing the effort a few players put in to stand out from the rest.

  • For some reason, America risks it for the cookie. At least the referee sets the tone early with a few yellow cards to keep the players under control before things take an unexpected turn!
  • Kenedy at right-back could be a good experience. Today wasn’t a good first look, though.
  • Three at the back still in place, Malang Sarr having to do a lot of work with Jürgen Damm on his side (left).
  • Some good stuff from Hakim Ziyech with some smart passes to set up other attackers. Meanwhile, Callum Hudson-Odoi was almost invisible.
  • Kai Havertz has the accessories of a true centre-forward. Just needs better aiming for that to happen.
  • Conor Gallagher was head and shoulders above the players on the pitch today. Despite some errors on the ball and a yellow card for a severe foul in midfield, the kid stood out in defense and attack.

  • The whole team is changed! It should be fun.
  • America didn’t do much in the first half and they shouldn’t do much in the second either.
  • Christian Pulisic has a thing for boring Mexican teams, doesn’t he?
  • Michy Batshuayi is doing no favors to claim a place in this Chelsea squad with this kind of centre-forward play. Just unhappy.
  • Timo Werner does little, but still scores a goal. We will take it!
  • And Mason Mount is just a gem. At a loss for words to describe how good he is at the game despite his young age.
