Catching COVID in the past will not protect you against Omicron

Children and adolescents generally showed some loss of antibody cross-neutralization against the five COVID-19 variants (Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, and Omicron), but Omicron suffered the most loss.

However, a study of neutralizing antibodies reveals that vaccinations are protective.

Children who had previously[{” attribute=””>COVID-19 (or the inflammatory condition Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children) are not protected against the newer Omicron variant, according to research based on the nationwide Overcoming COVID-19 project, which is directed by Boston Children’s Hospital.

The research did discover that vaccination does provide protection, however.
