San Diego Comic-Con featured a panel from Marvel Studios in Hall H on Saturday night that mapped out the majority of Phases 5 and 6 for the MCU as it relates to theatrical releases and Disney+ exclusive series. Many fans expected some sort of team-up movie featuring the Young Avengers to be announced at the convention due to the introduction of so many new and young faces to the franchise during the phase. 4. However, Marvel Studios has instead focused on revealing new projects such as Daredevil: Born Again, Avengers: Kang Dynastyand Avengers: Secret Wars.
While there haven’t been any official reports suggesting a project featuring the Young Avengers is on the way, many actors who portray young characters in the MCU have commented on the possibility of it happening. Hailee Steinfeld, the actress behind Kate Bishop, didn’t deny when asked about the Young Avengers, but simply said that “There are a lot of new opportunities coming up.” Billy Maximoff actor Julian Hilliard was also asked about the superhero team, and he even named the actors he’d like to work with on the project.
While no official announcement was made at Comic-Con regarding the Young Avengers, Kevin Feige still had a few words about what to expect in the future.
Kevin Feige on the Young Avengers
After the Marvel Studios panel in Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con, Kevin Feige was asked by MTV News’ Josh Horowitz about the lack of announcement regarding the Young Avengers. Feige responded by mentioning that the MCU has “incredible characters” who have been “introduced in phase 4,” hinting that if there were to be a project featuring the Young Avengers, it would go further:
“We have…we kind of remind people of all the amazing characters that we introduced in Phase 4 and kind of where those characters go and how they form their own cliques.”
Feige has been asked several times about the Young Avengers in the past. In a March 2021 interview with Entertainment Weekly, the Marvel boss was asked about the potential formation of this team, to which he said that “the potential (is) infinite” Regarding the characters that were introduced in Phase 4:
“As a fan of comics, everything in comics is always our inspiration and our landmark. How those things come together and in what form, it always subverts expectations, it’s always half fun to meet them. But, yeah, you can definitely see that Phase 4 is introducing all kinds of new character types with endless potential.”
In the same interview, Feige went on to compare Marvel Studios to Nick Fury, especially when he has to say “new actors” this “they are part of a larger universe:”
“Now all of us at Marvel Studios feel like Nick Fury at the end of Iron Man 1, as new actors and performers arrive and we tell them they’re part of a bigger universe. They just have to do the work necessary to build their audience. I’m happy to say that everyone here, certainly where I’m sitting now, is doing an incredible job and [I] can’t wait to show them the world.
It’s also important to remember that, during an interview with ComicBook before the release of Hawk Eye, actress Hailee Steinfeld was asked about the potential for a Young Avengers team-up project. She then glanced at Kevin Feige, and as the two stared at each other for a moment, it looked like they had something to hide. Moments later, Steinfeld said that “This is just the beginning” In response to the original question about the Young Avengers:
“I mean, look, it feels so crazy to me right now, just sitting here with this group of people. I’m so grateful to be a part of this show in this universe, and this is just the beginning. This show hasn’t even come out, so I’m looking forward to that day.”
Will there be a Young Avengers movie?
It looks like there are plans for the Young Avengers to appear down the line at some point. There’s been too much evidence to believe that something isn’t in the works, ranging from direct quotes from Kevin Feige to the look Hailee Steinfeld gave him when asked about the team.
Feige’s quotes following the Comic-Con panel definitely don’t rule anything out, and while no one can speak for the president of Marvel Studios except himself, it seems he just wants fans to get to know him. more new characters before they all are. seen together. At this point, many of the new faces have only appeared in one, maybe two projects during Phase 4, so rush them into a team movie when there’s more to explore about them first n may not be the wisest decision.
It’s also important to remember that the MCU already has three big team-up movies planned for Phases 5 and 6, two of which are avengers movies. If a Young Avengers project were to be thrown into the mix somewhere, chances are it would all get cluttered. Based on his quotes and his reaction, it seems Feige has a plan for the Young Avengers in mind. In the meantime, his statements hint at the possibility of more solo projects on the way, centering on some of the newcomers to the MCU, and fans still have the previously announced projects to look forward to.
